How do I know if Beacon of Hope is right for me?
You won’t likely know if Beacon of Hope is right for you until you give it a try. At the start of any therapeutic relationship, it takes some time to establish trust and confidence in the psychotherapy process and research has shown that a good “fit” between therapist and client is important for achieving a positive outcome. The process is meant to be collaborative and the outcome of treatment will largely depend on your willingness to engage in that process. If you’re ready to begin working on the issues that are preventing you from living the life you want, contact us and together we’ll figure out if Beacon of Hope is the right place for you.
How long does therapy take?
Some people seek therapy to address a specific issue and feel better after just a few therapy sessions due to the discovery of a fairly simple resolution. More often, the reasons for our emotional pain are less obvious and the work involved in uncovering those reasons and responding to them lead to longer-term therapy and support.
How often will I meet with my therapist?
The frequency of your sessions may vary depending on a variety of factors, such as the nature of your presenting needs, but therapy sessions are typically held once per week. This can be discussed with your therapist so that a beneficial schedule can be arranged.
What is your approach to therapy?
In my work with clients, I place emphasis on meeting the unique needs of each client I work with and, for that reason, draw from several psychotherapeutic orientations and influences. I make every effort to establish a collaborative and trusting relationship with each client I serve by providing a warm, validating, and non-judgmental atmosphere. I believe you are the expert of your life and I am here to help you on your journey to living the life you desire. My goal is to help you reach your personal goals, whatever they may be.
What will happen during my first appointment at Beacon of Hope?
Your first appointment at Beacon of Hope will involve an initial assessment during which I will gather additional information about your presenting needs, relevant history to those concerns or needs, and what you hope to gain from the therapy process. Following this assessment, I will be able to offer you some initial impressions of what our work together might include.
What can I expect in therapy?
As each individual pursues therapy for different reasons and with different goals, you’ll also find that the psychotherapy process is a highly individualized experience. During your therapy sessions, we may work together to identify unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that are preventing you from thriving, and explore their alternatives. We may also take a look at past experiences that are keeping you from having the relationships you want today. I’ll introduce coping skills and strategies as they relate to your unique struggles. I’ll invite you to share insights you’ve gained from previous sessions or skills you’ve practiced between sessions. We’ll regularly discuss ongoing challenges or barriers as well as highlight your successes. As a client at Beacon of Hope, you will be involved in planning your treatment goals and we will discuss your progress towards achieving those goals throughout our work together.
What will I get out of therapy?
You can expect to get out of therapy what you put into it. In other words, you will obtain more desirable results from therapy if you actively and fully participate in the process, to include being open and honest with your therapist, asking questions throughout the process of treatment, practicing newly learned skills and techniques outside of your therapy sessions, being on time for your appointments, and showing yourself compassion and grace during this time of healing and change. If you are ready to invest in yourself and commit to working through what is holding you back from achieving your goals, take the next step and contact me today!
